A car which is feared to contain a passenger has fallen off a slipway into the River Fal at the King Harry Ferry.
Devon and Cornwall Police were called at 16:10 to the King Harry Ferry and Falmouth Coastguard and the emergency services are at the scene and trying to pull the car out of the water.
The driver, a woman, escaped but police fear another passenger could still be in the car.
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police said the rescue was proving more difficult than had been first thought and police divers had been requested to help with the operation.
A rescue helicopter from RNAS Culdrose and inshore and all weather lifeboats from Falmouth are also at the scene. A civilian diver has also been inspecting the car.
A statement from the King Harry Ferry said the car went into the water at about 16:00, when the ferry was at the Feock side of the river.
The statement continued, “The service has been temporarily suspended and emergency services are in attendance,”.
