Hidden Agendas by Carol Tetlow* – Available via Amazon as an eBook, published in 2013
Alison Stansfield is a respected and well liked GP. She is also a wife, mother of two and the family’s main breadwinner. As far as she is concerned, all’s right with the world. As far as everyone else is concerned, she “has it all”…well, maybe she’s a bit too committed to her work, but….
One day it all falls apart and as Alison goes from disbelief to shocked acceptance, with every other emotion coming into play, more and more unexpected things surface and life gets worse than she ever imagined. She’s used to handing out advice to people, but in her own life it’s not so easy. In any case, who can she turn to?
Verdict: as regular readers of my reviews know, I’m not a fan of “women’s contemporary fiction” unless it’s a bit different. This one was recommended by a friend (Carole Travelle) who shares the author’s love of donkeys (sadly no donkeys in the book) and I’m happy to report I found the characters engrossing to the point that I wanted to tell all of them what I really thought! And I really cared about Alison’s future. Be happy, Alison…you deserve better!

Sallie – if you enjoyed “Hidden Agendas”, then you must read Carol’s latest novel “Best Served Cold”. It features Grace, a young dedicated GP, again in a Yorkshire practice. Because the story has elements of a psychological thriller I can’t say too much without spoiling the plot, but it’s a cracking read and, I think, Carol’s best yet. It’s available on Kindle now.
