The Day We Disappeared by Lucy Robinson – Published by Penguin, April 2015
This is the story about the lives and loves of a group of friends, with the stories of Annie and Kate taking centre stage.
If you’ve ever read any of the Jilly Cooper books about young women falling for the handsome hero (a complete rotter, naturally) then you’ll know what to expect here. Annie falls for her gorgeous, kind, rich boss and can’t believe her luck when he tells her he loves her too. Kate is in love with the owner of the stables where she’s got a job as a stable hand, despite knowing absolutely nothing about horses. He’s unhappily married to a wife who holds the purse strings, but…wait…he’s also a brilliant and successful rider, until he has a terrible accident. Guess who’s waiting for him?
I realise I’ve given away much of the plot but, if you enjoy this kind of book, you probably already know the formula. And there’s quite a clever plot twist towards the end, which I won’t give away.
It got great reviews from Cosmopolitan, Bella and Now magazine etc. and it’s an easy read; it’s just not my sort of book.
