Women’s London: a tour guide to great lives by Rachel Kolsky Published by lifestylebooks
Planning a trip to London? Want to visit some different sights or need ideas to design your own walking tour? This is the book for you, whether you’re male or female.
Although the main focus is “important” women who left their mark on London’s heritage and culture, you don’t necessarily need to know London to enjoy this book. Written by a Blue Badge guide, there are references to suffragettes, writers, politicians, the history of the A-Z, stories of the early women medics and, less familiar, the first women to work at Smithfield Meat Market and for the Metropolitan Police.
There are maps and photos, self guided walks based on areas of London, on science and the stage as well as guides to museums.
Even better (for some of you) there’s no need to visit, this book is a fascinating read without having to “walk the walk”.
