The Little Gardener by Emily Hughes – Published by Flying Eye Books
Lots of ‘big’ illustrations, with some fine detail and repetition, so ideal for small children, maybe as a bedtime story.
As you might have guessed, this is the story of a little gardener, whose garden is the most important thing in his world.
It’s a simple, gentle tale of hard work, resilience and eventual reward. The moral of the story is “if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again”.
Short snd sweet (but not saccharine sweet). I wasn’t able to test it out on a child, however I found it charming and surprisingly moving.
