Sicario Starring Emily Blunt, Directed by Denis Villeneuve
After rising through the ranks of her male-dominated profession, idealistic FBI agent Kate Macer (Blunt) receives a top assignment. Recruited by mysterious government official Matt Graver (Josh Brolin), Kate joins a task force for the escalating war against drugs. Led by the intense and shadowy Alejandro (Benicio Del Toro), the team travels back-and-forth across the U.S.-Mexican border to flush out a cartel boss.
This is such a brilliant portrayal of the complexities of crime and punishment, we’re left holding the moral decision ourselves. Superbly acted and a gripping story from start to finish, this has a punch which will tax even the avid cinemagoer.
Emily Blunt is one of my personal favourite actors and this film shows her ability to adapt to pretty much any script with convincing authority.
Verdict: A first class thriller with a moral twist that’ll resonate with you well after leaving the cinema. *****
