You will recall an article a few weeks back on Roseland Online about the idea of adopting one of the old phone boxes on The Roseland.
We were naturally delighted to learn that St Just and St Mawes Heritage Group are now the proud owners of 2 defunct BT red telephone boxes in St Mawes thanks to St Just in Roseland Parish Council who have purchased the two boxes (at £1 each) and insured them.
One box is situated outside The Arcade and the other is on Polvarth Road.
Speaking to Roseland Online, Cllr Chris Williams said, “We intend to use these as display space for permanent annual exhibitions. For our first display the box at Polvarth will feature photographs and pictures showing the history of farming in the parish and the box beside The Arcade will show the history of the important buildings around The Square.
“We are going to have a special Telephone Box Opening Ceremony on Wednesday 20th of May at 2.30pm outside the telephone box in The Square. This will be followed by a celebratory cream tea in The Millennium Rooms and there will be a short talk with slides by Jenny Johnson. This is a free event so please come along and help us celebrate having our first permanent display spaces.”
Do please let Roseland Online know about any other plans to adopt a phone box!
