02.05.11: Local Potter and Roseland resident, Raymond Bradshaw has won a prestigious Cornish award this week. The competition was run by Cornwall Today magazine and it is set to change Raymond’s future as a potter.
Raymond told Roseland Online, “It was a nice bit of free publicity for me and gave me some media exposure, which is exactly what I need at the moment.”
Until now, Ray has been making pottery in his Portscatho studio and selling it in his St Mawes gallery, but this award has enabled him to launch into a new career as photographer.
“I enjoy all aspects of photography. I print on frame and canvas, stretch my all my own work, and sell from my gallery in St Mawes.” he said. “Seascapes interest me the most. Living in a stunning area like the Roseland is an enormous advantage as we are surrounded by so much natural beauty. I nearly always take my shots at sunrise or sunset as this gives the soft light and tones thatget you the best mood and drama. It does mean dragging myself out of bed at silly times of the morning – in the summer it can be as early as 3am and staying out until 10pm – but it’s worth it.”
We wish Raymond a great future and, judging by this work, it looks set to be a lucrative one!
