Starring Roger Allam & Paul Brannigan, Directed by Ken Loach
Escaping a prison sentence by the skin of his teeth, the wayward and disillusioned Robbie is given one last chance to turn his life around. Together the four friends he embarks on an adventure and discovers that turning to drink might just change their lives – not cheap fortified wine, but the best malt whiskies in the world.
As always with Ken Loach, he’s able to tease out brilliant performances from both seasoned actors and novices alike, and this is no exception. Once again he explores the dark side of society and glazes it with a delightful sheen. Despite having a perculiar moral entre, this film is a delight to watch on so many levels.
Verdict: Loach doing what Loach does best. Making us feel good about ourselves. ****
