Philleigh Folk
Philleigh Folk Carrying on Regardless
Despite losing our home base for the last fourteen years at the Roseland Inn, Philleigh Folk will “not be going gentle into that good night”. This Autumn we have been are presenting our shows from our good friends at the Bohella Bar in St Mawes who have welcomed us with open arms. We will return to them next summer when the days are longer and warmer. For the spring season we will be presenting a season of shows from the Veryan Sports and Social Club
First up in January are folk duo Annown on Wednesday 18th, followed in February by multi instrumentalist Vicky Swan and Jonny Dyer on Wednesday 7th when Vicky will introduce us to the wonderfully named Nyckelharpa, a traditional Swedish instrument which is a cross between a fiddle and a keyed harp. Then in March we will be entertained by the close harmonies of Lynne Heraud and Pat Turner on Thursday 14th
ANNOWN
Wednesday 18TH January at 7.30pm
The Annown experience includes original songs based on Cornish legends, folktales and history, plus the stories which inspired the songs.
Annown are Chris Hytch on vocals, guitars, banjo mandolin, and Fred Cartwright on fiddle and mouth harp.
“These songs will be the traditional ones people will be singing in 70,80,100 years’ time”-
THE CORNWALL FOLK FESTIVAL
VICKY SWAN & JONNY DYER
Wednesday 7th February at 7.30pm
Vicki Swan & Jonny Dyer effortlessly blend traditional material with contemporary sounds. Their shows are packed with toe tapping tunes and songs of love, death, trains and dressing up (not always at the same time) all presented with sparkling gentle humour, lots of smiles and skilful musicianship
Be entranced by the haunting nyckelharpa, amazed at the cow horn (one of the world’s earliest communication devices) and meet some of the bagpipes that didn’t come from Scotland.
LYNNE HERAUD & PAT TURNER
Thursday 14th March at 7.30pm
Pat and Lynne are seasoned performers both as solo artistes and in groups. Together they produce a powerful and unique sound. Charismatic, humorous and quirky. They are not averse to a spot of outrage, social comment and ingenious, heart-warming smut. All presented with the same level of energy and precise vocal harmony with occasional concertina & guitar accompaniment.
From time to time they dress up as well, to devastating effect.
