The Post Starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks Directed by Steven Spielberg
Katharine Graham is the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, The Washington Post. With help from editor Ben Bradlee, Graham races to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spans three decades and four U.S. presidents.
Together, they must overcome their differences as they risk their careers, and very freedom, to help bring long-buried truths to light.
With a cast and director such as this, what more can one expect but consummate professionalism… and that’s exactly what you get here. Tense and crisp storytelling (written by Liz Hannah and Josh Singer – who also wrote the excellent Spotlight) superb acting and insightful directing make this a very engaging film which, like many these days, highlight the brave decisions from women professionals in a male-dominated world.
Verdict: A great, worthy award-winning film with hotly topical overtones, given the current administration. ****
This film will be shown at The Harbour Club in Portscatho on Monday 4th June
