A Hijacking, starring Johan Philip Asbæk, Søren Malling and Dar Salim, directed by Tobias Lindholm
In this gripping Danish thriller, the cargo ship MV Rozen is heading for harbour when it is hijacked by Somali pirates in the Indian Ocean. Amongst the men on board are the ship’s cook Mikkel (Asbæk) and the engineer Jan (Møller), who along with the rest of the seamen are taken hostage in a cynical game of life and death.
With the demand for a ransom of millions of dollars a psychological drama unfolds between the CEO of the shipping company (Malling) and the Somali pirates.
Although a very understated film, this documentary style film from Lindholm, who gave us two amazing films in ‘The Hunt’ and ‘R’ directs a very powerful and intense standoff. The acting and the situations feel real and the endurance for both the crew, families and CEO is palpable.
Verdict: Another excellent film from a world-class director in the making. Well worth a view. ****
This film will be show at the Harbour Club in Portscatho on Tuesday September 3rd. To see a trailer, click here.
