Jeff and Helen Smith of Portscatho Stores have come up with an innovative idea: to provide a Free eco-friendly shopping bag for every household in Portscatho, Gerrans and neighbouring hamlets.

The initiative has been created to reduce the impact of single-use plastic carrier bags on the Roseland; part of Plastic Free Roseland’s efforts to curb the use of single-use plastics here.

Portscatho Stores have taken delivery of the first batch of  200 bags and will start giving them out from Mon 7th October and they’ll be available until Saturday 30th November.  The bags will are only available from Portscatho Stores at one per household with additional bags purchasable for £2.50.

Anyone wanting claiming their free bag should bring to Portscatho Stores a form of I.D as proof of their address.
