13.12.11: Congratulations to the Royal Standard at Gerrans who is the first Public House on the Roseland to have been awarded a prestigious Gold Level CHEFS Award in recognition of its commitment to offering healthy menu options using locally sourced food. The Award means that the premises will be able to display the distinctive blue logo, which tells customers that it has adopted and maintains a high degree of food safety and standards as well as offering healthier options on its menus.
Proprietors, Bobbie and David Mitchell, told Roseland Online, “We are delighted to receive this award and are proud of the high standards we achieve. We feel the standard of our menus and quality of what is produced together with the healthy choices offered to our guests is second to none, and therefore it was very important for us to achieve the Gold level. The certificate will take pride of place in the bar for all our customers to see.”
Cornwall Council Officers, Natasha Jenkins (Commercial Food and Safety) and John Tutchier (Trading Standards) said, “This is the most prestigious award we give and reflects extremely high standards in both food hygiene and standards, combined with offering a wide range of healthier food choices to the customer. Bobbie and David have worked tremendously hard to ensure it met all the criteria and should be very proud of this achievement.”
Customers will have a guarantee that a percentage of the items on the menu are sourced locally. However, businesses are not expected to ensure that every dish served or item sold meets all the criteria – it’s about choice
Roseland councillor, Julian German, said, “This is a prestigious award and Bobbi and David are to be heartily congratulated. This award encourages businesses to promote local produce, and that can only be good for the local community as a whole.”
